Let's be honest - a lot of us are bored, or procrastinating, or could use something to make us feel better today. Well, my friends, I have the solution.

THE SPAM MEME
my thread here

Make it happen. XD Or you can do this one, if you like:

Make an anonymous comment with
1. One secret.
2. One compliment.
3. One non-compliment.
4. One love note, but it does not have to be for me.
5. Lyrics to a song.
6. How old you are.
7. How long we've been friends.
8. And a hint to who you are.
9. After you do it for me, put it in your LJ and see who does it for you.

Pontificating - Jayne Cobb
Any of you theatre-y people know some good, school-appropriate one-acts? Jimmy the Antichrist was rejected for my student direct (hmm, can't imagine why, haha), and I need to choose another script in the next five days.

My only backup was a play set in a therapist's waiting room about two crazy people who fall in love. (It sounds cute but it's not really that good. XD)

I'm alive!

I promise!

It's actually me!

It just hit me how massive my disappearing act was. How incredibly freaking lazy am I? I still haven't posted about A-Kon. And I probably will not…today. (Long stories short: cosplay woes turned out alright, and I got to hang out with Mike McFarland for like six hours. Honestly, going into it as I did, it turned out to be the best A-Kon I've been to. I greatly enjoyed myself. :D) Tomorrow I'm heading out to California with the family for about eight days, for the Public Enemies premiere…Disney…a Gin Blossoms concert. Maybe Lego Land. I'm also going to see Oleanna with Julia Stiles and Bill Pullman, which I'm REALLY excited about. :O

After the vacation I'm going to crack down on my Extended Essay, summer courses, and whatnot, so…you haven't seen the last of me. I'll cling to you for sanity!… xD

~Love you all ♥~

EDIT:
[info]redbrunja, I bought you a present at A-Kon. :D

I hate coming to conclusions very levelheadedly, deciding that I'll have to stop deluding myself if I don't want to go insane, and then two minutes later lamenting the fact that I suck.

~*~HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DANNIELLE!!!~*~

I fucking love you. Have a most excellent life, my dear. Take care of yourself.

Uhhh…Right. So, two things today. One of which I meant to address a while back, and that [info]chasing_the_sun is bothering me about, and the other is a vidspam.

RENT.
I mentioned a while back that Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal were coming through Dallas with the RENT Broadway tour. I didn't end up being able to afford tickets by the time I was able to get them, so I was making peace with the fact that I wouldn't get to go. I settled for rereading Anthony's memoir instead. But, the superawesome [info]vettrianolove ended up with an extra ticket and asked me to go. Aaaaaaaaaand so I did. I went to see RENT onstage with the two original leads. ASDFJKL;SQUEEFEST!

ME: Uuuuuggghhhhhh I'm totally reading Anthony Rapp's book again and it's AS FANTASTIC AS EVAR.
WESLEY: Anthony Rapp?
ME: The original Mark in RENT.
WESLEY: Ah.
ME: He was also in the original workshop before it opened as an off-Broadway show… Then the off-Broadway… Then Broadway…
WESLEY: Okay, I got it.
ME: Then the movie…
WESLEY: Yeah.
ME: …now the tour.
WESLEY: YEAH, I GOT IT.
ME: :)
WESLEY: Think he knows his lines?

It was amazing. It was the real Broadway set, too, with the whole multipurpose Christmas tree made out of bikes and everything. I thought the lighting was fantastic, too. I've never seen a show that started with the house lights up. Jonathan Larson really went out of his way to connect to the audience. Also I just about peed myself when Anthony Rapp walked onstage.

Now, I know the story backwards and forwards. And since Adam and Anthony were both in the original cast *and* the movie, I'm pretty used to hearing their voices whenever I listen to the soundtrack. I didn't want to focus on hearing their voices, I wanted to focus on their bodies, the way they moved, knowing that now their voices were coming from fifty meters away in the same room.

I'd heard from [info]missjcchinadoll that the actors would, occasionally, meet fans at the stage door (not like I wasn't going to try anyway), so after the show I dragged [info]vettrianolove out to the side of the building and hung out there for a bit. Or, twenty minutes. However you'd like to put it. You know, before we were very bitchily told by a stagehand that "they all gone, go home."

Which… kind of depressed me. I've been a fan of Anthony's for years. YEARS. I waited FIVE of them to get blown off. I mean, it sounds trite, but his performance in the show, his memoir, were both incredibly inspiring to me, as far as theatre goes, and, well, life. I just wanted to say thank you. To him, and, I figured by some weird proxy, to Jon Larson. I seriously considered just waiting there for another five minutes or so to see if anyone would come out, but… I was there with a friend, for a friend, and I didn't want to make her wait.

Then, I mean, I just felt bad for feeling bad, 'cause I got to go to the show and that should have been enough. But what I knew I'd remember was *not* getting to meet Anthony Rapp. It's like…that's what I went to do, and the show was a consolation prize. I wish I could be a normal fan like everybody else, have that be the bonus, but no. PLUS, it wasn't fair to [info]vettrianolove, who was so sweet to even consider taking me with her, much less waiting for me to flail and obsess then put up with my petulant whininess. (Dear, I owe you an apology. I'm sorry. ♥)

But…well…then my dad said he was willing to drive me back up for the matinee show that Sunday to see if we could catch him. Which…uhm…we did. )

So…Yes. That was an adventure. :)

Vids!
This is the playlist of what's under the cut:
1. The YES Dance
2. Craig Ferguson doing the YES Dance
3. Norbert Leo Butz performing "I Could Be In Love With Someone Like You," that was later replaced by "Shiksa Goddess" in The Last Five Years
4. NLB performing "Shiksa Goddess" from L5Y
5. Sherrie Rene Scott performing "See I'm Smiling" from L5Y
6. NLB performing "The Schmuel Song" from L5Y (If nothing else, ladies, watch this one. It's the one that gives me entirely unrealistic expectations of men. FML.)
7. SRS performing "Climbing Uphill" from L5Y

Bet you can't tell what I've been doing all week. )

Me: Your "God's child" comment is contradictory of separation of church and state. Religion can plan a part in your opinion, but not your argument. Try again.

Kid#2: Madeleine, show me exactly where it says in the Constitution of the United States of America that there is a requirement for the separation of church and state.

Meanwhile, I have an audition for Les Mis in two weeks… I need solos. Any of you musical theatre geeks know some good, not-overused female alto solos?

From the play I'm writing my paper over…

JOYCE: Were there further disagreements between Tzara and Huelsenbeck?
TZARA (yes, they are talking about him in third person): There were.
[…]
JOYCE: Huelsenbeck demanding, for example?
TZARA: International revolutionary union of all creative men and women on the basis of radical Communism—expropriation of property—socialization…
JOYCE: As opposed to Tzara's demanding?
TZARA: The right to urinate in different colors.

YOU GUYS.

SOMETHING WONDERFUL JUST HAPPENED.

So I've had my iPod Mini since they first came out in 2004. It's probably outlived it's warranty. I don't know. But it's done a damn good job, and I love it very much. In the last year or so, it's had problems holding a charge. It would say it was fully charged, but it would run out of power in an hour. Half an hour. Ten minutes. Thirty seconds. We sent it to get a new battery, and that kind of helped, but then it started to freeze up. After resetting it a few dozen times, it cut that shit out. Buuuuuuuut it's also been dropped a lot, and got all beaten to hell in the last couple of hours back from Florida, and earlier tonight I dropped it on the linoleum in the kitchen.

I tried to reset it, and got the Apple logo, then the backlight. Then it went dark.

About six or eight times it gave me a backlight, but no apple. Then dark.

Then after that, nothing. Just black.

I figured it had run it's course. Gone forever. I got kind of depressed. I totally didn't start crying, I don't know WHAT you are talking about. I was about to update my Facebook status and share with the world my ~*~agony~*~ and ~*~pain~*~… Then for whatever reason, I halfheartedly tried to reset it one last time.

The apple came up for about ten seconds.

Then the backlight.

Then the menu.

IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL, YOU GUYS. IT WAS LIKE A SCENE FROM A MOVIE. (Except with electronics instead of like my lover or something.) I was so thrilled. ♥♥♥

Of course, as soon as I started dancing around and crying "IT LIVES! IT LIVES!" my computer froze up. I think she's jealous.

Also, I got the score for my last math test today. It was both the semester final and LAST year's IB test. (We took the final early because it was doubling as our review for the real IB test, which is next week.) I got a 75/90, or an 83/100… Or a 7/7 on the IB scale. *glee!!*

maybe if you ask nicely

haircut fail

I'm Sorry But WTF - Simon Tam
Sooooo I just got the worst haircut ever.

I originally wanted to cut it like Haruhi Fujioka, then my mother and I compromised on cutting it like Kate Beckett, but it came out as, uhm, neither. It is both too long and too short to look any good. Plus all the weight at the bottom, by my jaw line, where there NEED BE NO WEIGHT, because it makes my face look like this --> (O)

Both my parents are like "MAH GAWD IT'S SO CYUUT," though, so, cutting it again is unlikely. Everyone is closed tomorrow anyway.

ETA
Aw shit, and I just found out that two of my best friends broke up. Now I think it was kind of a bitch move to complain about my hair. Hm.

Also, hay, [info]chasing_the_sun: This is for you. Under the video box on the left there's a playlist. Scroll down a bit. You'll see what I'm talking about.

Gaiz, look what I made, I'm a poet! :D )

WHOO, I'M LEGAL IN THE STATE OF TEXAS. Thanks to all of you who wished me happy birthday. It was excellent. I had a lot of sushi and a lot of cake, and a lot of staying up until 3 AM with [info]missjcchinadoll trying to play Stephen Lynch songs on my brother's old guitar. ♥

Also, I was unaware of this until today, but I share a birthday not only with Eric Idle of Monty Python, but also with Brendan Gleeson, Lucy Lawless, and Amy Sedaris. Not bad at all. (One place on the internet lied to me and also said that MC Hammer was born on 3/29, which would have kicked some serious ass, but he was born on 3/30.)

I am now in possession of:
• A mammoth box of Junior Mints
• Best of The Colbert Report DVD (SQUEE)*
• Flight of the Conchords tickets (SQUEETASTIC)
• 2 tickets to A-Kon 20 (MEGASQUEE)
• 2 tickets to the A-Kon 20 banquet (SQUEEDEATH)

*Wait, what?! Hasn't this show only been out for three years? And this DVD came out in 2007!

Also, Drew recently sent me a link to the rap he did with Alex back in seventh grade. (Well the rap was mostly Drew. Alex helped.) I actually remember when they first recorded it. Apparently Drew made the whole thing up as he was saying it. We were all so impressed. They haven't changed a whole lot, but I think they could do a better one now, mostly because oh my god their voices hadn't cracked yet. XD
